Fault Current/Lightning Sensor
This project is developing an RF sensor that is installed either on the shield wire or the down conductor of a transmission line to continually measure the magnitude and time of both fault and lightning currents. Sensors can be polled after an event to understand the location of a fault or the magnitudes of the lightning currents.
Improvements to range, security, and manufacturability from other sensors will be included in the final sensor design.
Project Phases: Development and Lab Testing
All of the individual components of the sensor have been successfully tested. A technology demonstrator has been built and is being tested in the laboratory.
